Our task

Following our successful project with the Norfolk Coast Partnership, we were approached by the Howardian Hills AONB to work on their new website. We were really excited about another AONB project as the work they do really aligns with our values.

We started this project with a light refresh to their logo to modernise it and lift the colour. Tones were taken from elements in the Howardian Hills landscape creating a bright yet organic palette. We then started work on the website.

The written content on their old website was in reasonable shape, so we simply gave that the once over with web users and search engines in mind and consolidated some rather empty pages.

Accessibility

Another key requirement was improving the accessibility of the site in line with gov.uk guidelines. The biggest challenge here was the volume of information contained with pdfs. We transferred as much as we could to web pages – better for accessibility – then worked through the remaining pdfs (some 53 documents) and improved the accessibility where possible.

The result

A colourful, bold website, including some hand-drawn illustrations, which really showcases the work of the AONB as well as signposting visitors to plenty of information that will help them make the most of their trip.

We thoroughly enjoyed working with the team and hope the new website is something they can be proud of!
